The goal behind building The Stock Engine was very simple:
to create a professional-grade stock analysis platform that operates at an extremely low cost while maintaining high value for serious investors. Read more about why I built the Stock Engine.
Those idea was to generated revenue without spending even $1
From the beginning, I wanted to build a system that could generate sustainable revenue without requiring heavy capital investment or outside funding.
How Was This Possible?
Back in 2016, very few application developers would have believed that such a platform could be built, deployed, and operated with almost negligible operating costs.
But I was determined not to build another expensive financial platform.
My objective was to offer readers of my blog access to professional-level stock analysis at a price affordable to ordinary investors.
The entire business model was designed around one principle:
Keep the infrastructure lean, keep the analysis strong, and pass the cost advantage to users.
My Business Model & How I Keep Costs So Low
| SL | Cost Heads | Cost | Remarks |
| 1 | Domain (apps.getmoneyrich.com) | Zero | The main domain was already live, so no cost for the subdomain. It was a conscious decision not to spend extra on a new domain. Moreover, with the inclusion of apps.getmoneyrich.com, the authority of the main website can also improve. |
| 2 | Application Hosting | <3% | This was a non-negotiable cost as my WordPress hosting platforms were not suitable for hosting the application with more abilities. |
| 3 | Stocks Data | Zero | This is usually one of the largest recurring expenses for financial platforms. My previous experience in stock analysis and data handling helped me develop a system that reads and processes publicly available annual reports directly. Even today, this remains the most time-consuming part of the business. However, by building the process internally, I estimate that I save nearly Rs. 8–10 lakhs annually in data-related costs alone. |
| 4 | Data Analysis | Zero | Instead of deploying the core stock analysis algorithms directly onto the application server, the analytical logic remains secured on my local systems. Over the years, I have continuously refined these algorithms since the launch of my Excel-based product in 2016. The quantifiable and text-based outputs are manually imported into the application. This approach not only keeps costs low but also makes the analytical framework highly protected and difficult to replicate. |
| 5 | PostgreSQL Data System | Zero | The PostgreSQL backend was developed by my co-developer without additional cost. The workflow is simple and efficient: data is updated locally by the admin, exported as CSV, validated through the backend system, and then written into PostgreSQL. Once uploaded, the frontend reflects the updated information instantly. |
| 6 | Front End UI | Zero | The UI/UX, screen structures, templates, and navigation systems were designed by my co-developer without any additional commercial expense. |
| 7 | Payment and User Authentication | <1% | UPI payments involve zero cost, while payment gateway charges remain below 1%. I intentionally kept payments and user authentication disconnected to maintain payment privacy and operational simplicity. The process is like this: Full Access: (a) Payment is made outside the app. (b) After the payment, the user creates an account. (c) Admin authenticates this account manually. (d) Full access is granted. Freemium Plan: Only selected viewing is allowed for some stocks, and only a couple of pre-built screeners. |
The Real Cost of Running The Stock Engine
In reality, the only meaningful operational cost of The Stock Engine is the time invested by two people:
- myself (about me),
- and my co-developer.
My co-developer already works a full-time job and only becomes involved during major upgrades, backend improvements, or emergencies.
Day-to-day operations are primarily handled by me.
Personally, my financial needs are relatively modest, and much of the cash flow generated from the platform is redirected into my investment portfolio, further strengthening my long-term financial independence.
My family and I continue to live a disciplined and frugal life.
While this approach is not always easy, it allows me to keep the pricing of The Stock Engine highly competitive for users.
Why The Pricing Is Still Kept Low
I believe most investors still underestimate the difference between genuine stock analysis and simple financial reporting.
Many free portals mainly present raw financial data.
The Stock Engine is designed to go much deeper by converting financial statements into structured analytical insights.
For now, I want the platform to remain accessible to serious retail investors at an economical price.
At some stage, pricing may become more premium as more users begin to recognize the depth, quality, and uniqueness of the analysis being offered.
But until then, my focus remains the same:
Deliver professional-grade stock analysis at a price that ordinary investors can genuinely afford.
