Should I consider investing in Orkla’s India operations?

I was checking the Orkla India share price and got curious about how this company is actually performing in India. Can someone explain whether Orkla’s India-based brands or subsidiaries are showing good growth and profits? I also want to understand if the current share price of Orkla (listed abroad) reflects the potential of its India business. Is it a good time to invest in Orkla for long-term exposure to the Indian FMCG market?

Orkla’s India arm houses these brands: MTR Foods, Eastern Condiments and Rasoi Magic. It is a well-known packaged foods and spices brand. For FY25 (year ended Mar 2025), Orkla India reported about Rs. 2,455 crore revenue and ~Rs. 256 crore PAT,. It showed a steady growth versus FY24. The Indian packaged foods market is also expanding at about 11% CAGR through FY2029. I think this is a good growth rate that will support a long-term demand story for companies like Orkla.

On 6 Nov 2025, Orkla India listed in India via an offer-for-sale. If you want direct exposure to the India business, the local listing now gives you that option. Earlier, many investors bought Orkla ASA in Oslo (ticker ORK). But the issue with that is, the parent reflects many global businesses beyond India.

Valuation and risks matter for investors in such newly listed IPOs. Recent reports are forecasting a softer reported revenue in 1H-2025. It is mainly due to price cuts as input costs fell. Even as underlying EBIT improved, but watch margins as competition in spices/ready-to-eat, and raw materials can swing a lot.
