How does Google make money when most of the things offered by Google are for free?

Google makes most of its money in India from advertisements.
When you search for something on Google or watch YouTube videos, you see ads. Businesses pay Google when people click on those ads.
Some revenue also comes from apps downloaded through the Google Play Store.
Money also comes from companies using Google Cloud and Gmail for work.
Though advertising is Google’s biggest source of income in India.
Beyond ads, Google is also expanding into new areas.
- Google Pay processes lots of digital payments in India, earning small fees on each transaction.
- Companies use Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive) for their offices.
- Google Cloud is also growing fast as more businesses go online.
Interestingly, Google India officially reports revenue of about Rs. 5,500 crore (my estimate). In FY24, Google India reported a net profit (PAT) of about Rs. 1425 crore (read here)
